The final decision over absentee ballot rules could be headed to court.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission said last week it won’t follow a legislative committee’s instruction to stop telling local election clerks they can fill in missing information on those ballots.
Republicans who control the Joint Rules Review Committee say clerks can only add information to the absentee ballots after speaking with voters.
Otherwise, the ballot has to be set aside.
A spokesperson for the Elections Commission says Wisconsin state law requires a vote by the commissioners before the guidance can be reversed.
