Starting tomorrow afternoon, over 30 beer makers from around the state will be in Manitowoc as a part of the Malt City Brewfest.
Guests will be able to sample beer from all of these breweries, including the three craft brewers in Manitowoc.
Craft Creek Brewery told us they are excited to learn things from the more veteran brewers, like PetSkull Brewing.
We spoke with Paul Hoffman from PetSkull, who said there are a lot of good things happening locally in the craft beer industry.
A big part of that is the presence of the company that is putting on Beerfest, Briess Malting.
“From a craft beer perspective, it is unbelievable that Breiss Malting is here in Manitowoc Wisconsin, and putting on this really cool Brewfest,” Hoffman said. “We are just super honored to be a part of it, and really looking forward to getting a lot of people coming from out of town to see what Manitowoc is all about.”
Hoffman said that Brewfest is about more than drinking great beer along the Manitowoc River, it’s also about learning more about the craft beer industry and the types of beer that are made locally.
“A lot of people think craft beer is like motor oil, or it’s all hoppy, but that’s not the case at all,” he explained. “There’s a lot of really great light beers that are done very very well. For example, our top seller is our Blue Collar Krewe. It is an American pilsner. It is a light beer.”
The owner of Manitowoc’s first successful local brewery also explained that the craft beer industry is rather symbiotic.
“All of us as craft brewers play a role in educating the public on what craft beer is. That is why we try to help as many craft breweries as possible,” Hoffman said. “I want Craft Creek to make the best beer possible because they are representing the craft beer industry. That would not be good if they were making beer that is sub-par, which they are not. They are making great beer. That’s why bend over backward to help each other out.”
Hoffman said he has a special beer ready to go for those who buy a VIP ticket for Saturday’s festivities.
He calls it “Trapist Triple” which is a Belgian triple and has 10% alcohol.
nd of course, the PetSkull staple, the Schnitsky will be available for everyone.
The gates will open at 2:00 in the Breis Malting parking lot located across the street from the library.
Advance tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite.com.
It should be noted that the Farmers Market has been moved to the City Hall parking lot just up the road so crews can complete the setup process.
