A Newton native has returned home to her family’s dairy farm, making her the 5th generation to work at Soaring Eagle Dairy Farm.
Kelsie Mauer recently graduated from UW Madison with a degree in Dairy Science and a certificate in Business Management.
When we spoke with Kelsie she told us she has been intrigued with farming ever since she was a child.
“It was no doubt that I wanted to return to my family’s dairy farm following graduation this past spring,” she said.
Kelsey said her mother played a big role in fostering her love of the farm.
“Ever since I was little I helped my mom feed calves,” she explained.
She also told Seehafer News she loves “Seeing young calves grow into older cows, and knowing where our product is going and that lovely product is cheese. [It’s] just awesome to know that I can be a part of that.”
Technology is an ever-growing aspect of farming and herd management.
Mauer told us that Soaring Eagle has definitely embraced one technological breakthrough, that being Tunnel Ventilation.
“I can tell you that is one of the best improvements we have made,” she said. “It has eliminated flies, and keeps all of our girls cool and happy to make that awesome product of milk.”
Mauer currently works as the herd manager, helping out in the barn with the herd on her family’s farm located at 10219 County Road F in Newton.
