The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says a 15-year-old from Chicago has died in a campground swimming pond.
The emergency call was received Tuesday at about 5:40 p.m. from Smokey Hollow Campground in Lodi.
The caller told dispatchers the teen went under and didn’t resurface.
Several agencies responded and found the child about 50 minutes later.
Life-saving measures were performed and the victim was taken to a hospital but didn’t survive.
Authorities haven’t released the dead teen’s name or gender.
