
A Manitowoc native is hanging up his boots after serving in the U.S. Army for over 45 years.
Colonel Peter J. Weina enlisted in the Army as a private at the age of 17, and quickly ascended the ranks.
He earned his Sergeant First Class rank while finishing his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in zoology at U.W. Madison.
He went on to earn a Ph.D. in pathology and parasitology while serving as a 2nd Lieutenant.
He also has more than 70 scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals and has two published books.
COL Weina served a tour in Iraq, where he earned the Bronze Star, the Soldier’s Medal for Heroism, and the Legion of Merit Medal.
