The recent decision by the Manitowoc Public School District’s Board of Education to give the members of the board key fobs for all buildings, including schools, has left some people confused and upset.
As one man pointed out in the comment section on Facebook, “Access has never been denied to board members. They simply check in at the office and get a visitor pass.”
Another person said that the board is “taking on unnecessary risks.”
One person, who identified herself as a parent of a child in the MPSD, conceded that if the fob is needed for a committee meeting, they don’t see a problem with it, but said “There would be absolutely no need for them to be in a school after hours unless accompanied by staff from that school.”
It was also noted by one commenter that “Unfettered access is security issue that is highlighted by the Department of Justice and the WI Association of School Boards.”
