
An Appleton woman has been convicted on charges stemming from a fatal high-speed crashlast year.
Irma Garcia pleaded no contest to a charge of 1st Degree Reckless Homicide.
Prosecutors say Garcia, who was 19 at the time, was high on mushrooms when she got behind the wheel and drove down the streets of Appleton at speeds reaching over 100 miles per hour.
She then hit the back of an SUV that was stopped at a stoplight which killed the driver, Sillia Hurula of Appleton.
Hurula’s vehicle also burst into flames after the crash.
Garcia’s vehicle was said the be going 106 MPH at the time of the crash, and there were no signs of her attempting to slow down as she approached the intersection.
Garcia will be sentenced in October and could spend as many as 60 years in prison.
