The new Interim Superintendent of the Manitowoc Public School District has only been on the job for about a week, but he says that he is loving Manitowoc.
While on WOMT’s Be My Guest program recently, Jim Feil spoke highly of the area and the School District as a whole.
“From the very beginning, it’s just been a wonderful opportunity,” he said. “When I was coming for the interviews, I was trying to take time to drive through the community. Everything that’s here is just exciting.”
Feil also took questions from the public.
One caller asked him to talk about why he was hired on an interim basis.
He explained that the District leaders wanted someone in the role full-time as soon as possible but they didn’t want to make a hasty decision.
Feil said, “So they would establish, as they were looking for this permanent superintendent, that they would put someone in an interim role with all the responsibilities and duties of the superintendent, the permanent one, but recognizing that its transitory.”
But that begs the question, does he only want to stay for the one-year term for which he was hired?
“I’m very interested in being long-term,” he said. “If by chance things work out, that’s great, but right now I’m going to help, working with the board, to do all the things the superintendent does, and to position ourselves for success.”
Feil said that even though he has only been on the job for such a short time “everything has been going well” and said that he is putting in a lot of effort trying to get to know the community.
