Manitowoc pounded out 14 hits last night en route to an 8-5, 8-inning victory over Marinette in American Legion baseball.
Legion Post 88 snapped a 4-all tie in the top of the 8th with a 4-run rally, highlighted by RBI singles from Brock Peterson and Ridge Guyette along with a 2-run double by Ashton Portmann.
The host team scored a run in their half of the inning to make the final 8-5.
Brandon Stephany of Kiel pitched a complete game during which he scattered 10 hits, struck out 4 and walked 1.
Peterson and Portmann both went 3-for-5 with Ashton driving in 4 runs in the win. Two other former Ships, Alex Lensmeyer and Ben Walsh, were 2 for 5.
Manager Kevin Stangel’s team improves to 12 and 3 and has a couple of days off now before hosting Stevens Point in a Saturday (July 9th) doubleheader at Municipal Field.
Game-1 is scheduled to start at noon.
