Despite a cloudy day with passing rain showers and cool temperatures, a crowd of approximately 100 people attended the Shoreland Baseball League’s 50th Anniversary recently at Walsh Field.
The agenda for Saturday, June 25th also included the posthumous Hall of Fame induction of Howie Timm, the longtime manager of the Two Rivers Polar Bears.
Several generations of Howie’s family were there to honor him, from his children all the way to his great great-grandchildren.
League co-President AJ Lorrigan inducted Timm while one of Howie’s daughters, Sharon, accepted and spoke on her father’s behalf.
She shared stories of growing up around the Polar Bears and her dad, known as Mr. Baseball in Two Rivers.
About a dozen of Timm’s players were on hand for their former skipper’s induction ceremony.
Shoreland League alumni representing multiple decades dating back as far as 1948 spent a portion of the afternoon fraternizing and sharing stories.
The day at Walsh Field finished with a baseball game matching a team of the league’s young rising stars against a group of Shoreland veterans.
The exhibition contest saw the Rising Stars defeat their “senior” counterparts, 10-1.
Jeff Stueck was the winning pitcher while Josh LaFleur, Trevor Cornell, and Bryce Urbanek had 2 hits apiece in the victory.
The 50th-anniversary celebration continues this summer with an all-star game against the Door County League on Thursday, July 14th at Capital Credit Union Park in Green Bay.
Gametime is 7:00 p.m. and admission is $5 for adults, with no charge for kids 12 and under.
