U.S. Senate candidate and Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes is being harshly criticized by Republicans for his comments about the way slavery is taught and the founding of this country.
Barnes is running for Senate in the Democratic primary.
Speaking at an event in Portage last year he told the crowd, “Imagine being so ashamed of how we go to this place in America that you outlaw teaching it.”
Republican Rebecca Kleefisch said Governor Evers needs to call out Barnes for his “awful comments about our great nation.”
She added, “Unless of course, he agrees.”
