One of the longest-running community picnics ‘anywhere’ will be held this weekend in Manitowoc County.
The Reedsville Firefighters Picnic kicks off its’ three-day run tonight at Village Park with rides, music, food, and a big parade on Sunday.
Seehafer News spoke with event chairman Mike O’Connell about the longevity of the picnic.
“This is the 121st annual picnic,” he explained. “It’s been running every year except 2020 when we had COVID-19. That was the only year we did not have it that I know of.”
O’Connell admits it’s a lot of work but he proudly stated they’re one of the last departments around that has a three-day event.
“It’s big for our village, it brings a lot of people and families together,” he told us. “It’s good for all the businesses around, it’s a good time and it’s nice to see everyone.”
The firefighters’ organization is a non-profit group and proceeds from the picnic not only go back to their department but to the community as well.
“We do maintenance on the park, any improvements that we’re going to do and we donate equipment to the fire department,” OConnell revealed. “Also, just general donations to other organizations in the village. This year, the big thing for the picnic is we’re looking to get some new playground equipment in the park.”
O’Connell told us the Reedsville Firefighters Picnic gets underway with a Fish Fry at 5:00 p.m., ride specials and live music by the Glam Band starting at 8:00 p.m.
Activity continues Saturday with a Cornhole Tournament, Duck Races and the Spicy Tie Band on the entertainment stage at night.
Sunday’s main feature is a big parade starting at 11:30 a.m. that’ll include an excellent high school band from Pulaski.
