There is a lot to talk about with the NBA Draft last night.
First, the Bucks have selected MarJon Beauchamp with the 24th pick in the first round.
Beauchamp played for the Ignite of the G-League last season averaging 15 points a game. He is expected to fit nicely into Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer’s approach because Beauchamp is known for his defensive abilities. The 6′ 6″ guard has a wingspan of 7′ 1″, and what one scout calls “great lateral quickness.”
Meanwhile, Former Badgers guard Johnny Davis has been taken by the Washington Wizards with pick number-10.
The 6′ 5″ La Crosse native came into his own as a sophomore last season, averaging 19.7 points and 8.3 rebounds a game. He becomes the first Badger player drafted since Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker in 2015 – and he is just the sixth Badgers in program history to be drafted in the top 10 positions.
Also of note, the Golden State Warriors took Patrick Baldwin Junior with the 28th pick.
The 6′ 10″ 230-pound athlete would have likely been taken higher if he hadn’t suffered debilitating injuries during his UW-Milwuakee career. He is expected to play in the N-B-A Summer League in Las Vegas.
In a bit of a shocker, Marquette standout Justin Lewis didn’t hear his name called.
He was expected to be a second-round choice, at least. His college performance will likely earn him a shot as a free agent.
