Some local and area high school baseball standouts have been named to the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association All-State and Academic All-State teams.
Six players were selected to the Honorable Mention All-State squad including Manitowoc Lincoln sophomore shortstop Noah Wech, outfielder Hayden Konkol of state champion Denmark, Chilton infielder Max Mueller, the Bay Port duo of sophomore infielder Cal Casper and outfielder John Nickel and Random Lake infielder Mitchell Hiller.
Wech was a leader of the Ships team in several categories this spring. He posted a .434 batting average with 36 hits including 5 doubles, 4 triples, and a home run. Noah had 32 RBI and scored 18 runs.
As a pitcher, he went 4 and 2 with 3 saves that included 69 strikeouts in 36 innings. Wech was named FRCC Player of the Year and named first team all-conference as a shortstop and a pitcher.
His coach, Bruce Steinbecker, called Wech one of the best players he has ever coached and he’s just a sophomore.
One of those baseball players earning WBCA All-Academic honors is senior catcher Reece Stangel of Roncalli High School.
