For the third year, there will be a Juneteenth celebration in Manitowoc.
This holiday, which became a federal holiday in 2021, honors the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.
On June 19th, 1865, slavery was abolished in Texas, which was the final state to leave the Confederacy and join the Union.
The Lakeshore’s United Visionaries are hosting this year’s celebration at Citizen Park, located at 1840 Rankin Street in Manitowoc from noon until 6:00 p.m.
The family-oriented event will include a basketball tournament, softball, bounce houses, a DJ, and educational booths and vendors.
All children will also receive a free book to take home.
For more information on the event, visit the L.U.V. Facebook page.
