Almost ideal running conditions greeted runners Sunday morning for the 10th Holy Family Memorial Maritime Marathon in front of the UW Green Bay Manitowoc campus.
The male winner was Steve Kindred of Kaysville, Utah in a time of 2:48:48.2 seconds.
Nicole Terry of Arlington, Virginia was the top female finisher in 3:16:01.9.
Two Fond du lac runners swept the Half Marathon.
Charles Quast ran a 1:15:11.3 while Karen Reis had a time of 1:30:51.5.
One of the marathoners taking part was St. Louis resident Badhri Chakravarthy, who competed in Manitowoc last year too.
We asked Badhri what drew him to the HFM Marathon, to which he said, “This is an easy drive for me, and at the same time you don’t get too many marathons in June.”
Badhri also said it was his 76th marathon and that he wanted to finish “without any injuries.”
Tampa, Florida resident Chrysta Gyoerkoes says it was her first marathon.
“I got started eight years ago. I just wanted to lose 15 pounds,” she explained. “I just started running on the treadmill during my lunch hour…and it just went from there. I was hooked.”
Chrysta also told us why she decided to run the Manitowoc/Two Rivers course.
“Tampa Florida is about 95 with 85-90% humidity right now,” she said. “And I love Wisconsin.”
Top local finishers in the Full Marathon were Zachary Schaaf, 15TH overall and Kelsey Hoffman 2nd.
The best finish for the men in the Half Marathon was Sam Jacobson in 3rd place while Sydney Fricke paced the women, placing 2nd.
