
In semi-pro football over the weekend, the Manitowoc County Mariners spotted the Southern Lakes Blue Devils a 14-0 first-quarter lead before rallying for a 28-16 victory at Salem, Wisconsin Saturday night.
Quarterback Marcos Alfaro II completed 12 passes for 203 yards and 3 touchdowns, with 5 of those caught by wide receiver Trevor Wenig for 79 yards and a score.
Defensively, Travis Goins registered 5 tackles and 2 sacks, while a pair of former Lincoln Ships, Andy Meyer and Brysen Roulette impacted the game as well.
Roulette had 3 tackles and an interception and Meyer added a 4 tackle, 2 sack performance.
It was also a special night for two Mariners’ offensive linemen, Center Ricky Paredes scored a touchdown after recovering a fumble in the endzone, and tackle Eugene Winkel caught a tipped pass for a gain of 2 yards.
The Mariners, now 5 & 1, are scheduled to host the undefeated Wisconsin Ravens next Saturday, June 18th at Magee Elementary School in Two Rivers.
Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
