Random Lake junior pitcher Matt Merlo is the Player of the Year on the All-Big East Conference Baseball team being announced this morning.
Local players named to the first-team unit include Manitowoc Lutheran junior Sawyer Stuebs, Mishicot freshman shortstop Nolan Sand, Reedsville senior Brennen Hynek and the Howards Grove duo of sophomore Jonah Walleser and junior Kyle Damrow.
Voted 2nd team all-conference were senior August Hecker of Lutheran and the Mishicot trio of sophomore Logan Marquardt, Nolan Sand as a pitcher and junior Ben Griffey.
On the honorable mention list, Reedsville had three players honored. They were seniors Karson Schenian and Jett Kleppen, along with sophomore Levi Korstad. Lancer senior Ethan Menges also made the cut, as did his sophomore teammate Noah Czarneski.
The All-Big East Conference Softball team is dominated as you might imagine by league champion Mishicot.
The Indians have five first team selections led by Player of the Year sophomore first baseman Katelyn Callahan. She is joined by sophomore Cora Nelson, senior Ally McArdle, sophomore Cora Stodola, and freshman Kasey Brouchoud. Manitowoc Lutheran is represented on the first team unit by junior Jenna Lischka.
Named 2nd team all-conference from the area were the Lancers Samantha Siehr and the Reedsville combination of Alexis Eichhorst and Mallory Novy.
Their Panther teammates senior Makalynn Mraz and junior Ella Fogeltanz made the honorable mention list, as did Manitowoc Lutheran senior Aubry Scheis.
