A program in the Green Bay Police Department is on the verge of going extinct due to low participation numbers.
The Teen Police Academy is scheduled to begin June 13th, but City of Green Bay Crime Prevention Coordinator Melenie Skalmoski says they don’t even have ten applicants.
While the program has a cut-off of 35 students, if they don’t reach that mark of 10, the program would have to be skipped this year.
The 20-year-old program is free for high school students in Brown County who want to learn more about law enforcement.
The program is also a good way for students who do not want to enter the law enforcement field to form good relationships with those who protect and serve their community and to gain a better understanding of what these men and women do every day.
Applications can be found on the City of Green Bay website.
