After leading his Reedsville High School football team to its’ first-ever state championship last fall, Aaron Fredrick has stepped down, due to family reasons.
The School Board this week approved the hiring of Sam Shafer, a physical education teacher in the district as Fredrick’s replacement.
The biggest factor in his decision to leave the position was Fredrick’s newborn son being born nine weeks early and having spent the past 50 days in the newborn intensive care unit.
The popular Panthers’ coach and his wife had been trying for seven years to have a child and even had a trip planned to Greece for in vitro fertilization before they found out about the pregnancy.
Fredrick added, “He’s our little miracle kid.”
Shafer was an assistant coach under Aaron, graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 2020, and was a defensive back on the football team.
The new Panthers head coach said on Twitter, “I am honored to be announcing I have been hired as the head football coach for the Reedsville Panthers. I want to thank the district and community for this amazing opportunity and I am beyond excited to get to work with our athletes and staff. GO PANTHERS #ReedsvilleSD.”
