Teachers from the Madison Metropolitan School District are demanding higher wages.
More than 100 teachers and staff rallied at the district’s school board meeting on Monday.
Madison Teachers Incorporated union president Mike Jones said their actions are not “an act of defiance or anger,” but of fear that many of their colleagues will be forced to leave for the suburbs or elsewhere.
A spokesman said the Madison district acknowledges the frustrations amongst staff over limited funding for wage increases, saying it’s a direct result of a regressive state budget.
