A local veteran and prisoner of war will be telling his story today to a group of fellow veterans.
Ashly Smits, the organizer of the Manitowoc County Veteran’s group on Facebook explained to Seehafer News that Kevin Hermening will be speaking at their veterans-only meeting tonight, which begins at 5:00 p.m.
“He’s an active community volunteer, he is a small business owner, and he is a Marine veteran,” Smits said. “He was the youngest of the Americans that were held hostage for 144 days in Iran during the Iran Hostage Crisis.”
Smits said the purpose of his visit to the group is to, “Definitely to share his experience while he was in captivity…but to talk about how you can go through something in life but you can overcome it and be successful.”
The meeting tonight will be held in the Conference room at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Building, located at 4411 Calumet Avenue in Manitowoc.
As mentioned this event is only for veterans, and is the latest group meeting for those involved in the Manitowoc County Veterans Facebook group.
