Kiel Middle School was the target of a bomb threat yesterday morning.
According to Police Chief Dave Funkhouser, the Kiel Police Department received an email reporting that bombs had been placed at the school.
The threat also made reference to the story we reported on a couple weeks ago, where three students are being charged with sexual harassment, reportedly over the improper use of pronouns.
The Middle School, along with Kiel High School and Zielanis Elementary were all evacuated while search teams began looking for the devices.
No devices were found in the building. Kiel, and Manitowoc County officials were joined in their investigation by the Calumet and Brown County Sheriff’s Departments.
Chief Funkhouser also said in a statement that he is working with the State Department of Justice and the FBI to find the person responsible for making the threat.
The story regarding the students at Kiel Middle School has garnered national attention and has left many people upset with the School District.
Chief Funkhouser also said in a separate statement that staff at the District have been receiving threats from members of the public.
The Chief said that the comments have been “extremely vulgar, hateful, and disturbing.”
Although he did not include any of the statements, he did say that they have not received any credible threats.
He also suggested that the School District either postpone their meeting scheduled for last night or hold it virtually.
The District did head his warning and announced that they would be postponing their meeting until this Wednesday, and will do so virtually.
