The 23-year-old man who admitted killing a U-S Navy veteran two years ago in Dane County has been sentenced to life in prison.
Riley Berg won’t be eligible for parole until he is 55.
He entered a guilty plea to the charge of first-degree intentional homicide for shooting Nicholas Day to death.
Dane County Sheriff David Mahoney called it a “cold and calculated act.” Investigators originally thought Day was the victim of a hit-and-run.
The autopsy revealed he had been shot twice.
Detectives reportedly found a bloodstain containing the victim’s DNA in Berg’s vehicle.
