The Manitowoc Public School District recently announced the hiring of Stan Diedrich as its new Athletic Director.
Diedrich takes over the role from Dave Steavpack, who’s retiring this summer.
The newly-hired Athletic Director is a 1988 Lincoln High School graduate and later received his college degree from UW-Parkside.
Stan spoke with Seehafer News about how he feels about returning home.
“There are a lot of challenges, obviously with stuff going on but it’s a great opportunity at this point in my career,” he said. “I think things are going in the right direction, adding there’s a lot of people that care up at that school. (I) hope I can be part of this to help keep moving that forward.”
Diedrich has spent the last 25 years as a Social Studies teacher at Hilbert High School, where he also coached numerous sports and served as Wolves’ athletic director for the past eight years.
He explained what his first priority will be as overseer of the Ships athletic program.
“I think the biggest thing for me right now is I obviously know the community and the facilities,” he said. “It’s getting to know all the coaches and finding out what their concerns are and try to get everything on the same page so that we’re all pulling the same direction and doing what’s best thing for the kids ultimately. My big thing right now is transitioning to this next year and start meeting with the coaches to learn what their needs are, facilities, things that need to be upgraded.”
Diedrich, like Steavpack, will encourage Lincoln students to play two or more sports, or be involved in other school activities like music or plays to “broaden their horizons, and in turn, help their school.”
