
The Manitowoc County Mariners opened their spring and summer semi-pro football season on a successful note.
The Mariners of head coach Brent Luebke defeated the Fox River Raiders of Oshkosh 34-8 in a weather-shortened game at Rubick Municipal Athletic Field Saturday evening.
The game was called late in the 3rd quarter due to lightning.
Some game highlights included an 82-yard interception return for a touchdown by Lance Billings the 2nd, Austin Isley had 4 receptions for 63 yards, and 2 touchdowns from quarterback Marcos Alfaro II.
Alfaro completed 17 of 23 through the air for 160 yards and 3-scores.
The Mariners will travel to Hart Park in Wauwatosa next Saturday, May 7th for a 6:00 p.m. matchup with the Wisconsin Raptors.
They had a bye to start the season.
