
Today is the 150th Anniversary of Arbor Day, and the City of Manitowoc will be celebrating with a ceremony.
The celebration will be held at 1:15 p.m. at the Citizen Park Recreation Center, located at 930 North 18th Street.
Jeff Edgar from Silver Creek Nurseries will give a short presentation which will be followed by a ceremonial tree planting of trees donated by the Izaak Walton League on the south side of Citizen Park.
Grade school students who attend will receive a free tree seedling.
In conjunction with Arbor Day, the City of Manitowoc recently received its 2021 Tree City USA award.
This is the thirty-ninth year in a row that the City of Manitowoc has been named a Tree City USA community.
The award honors the city’s commitment to effective urban forest management.
The National Arbor Day Foundation sponsors the Tree City USA program in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.
