Next week is Compost Awareness Week, and in celebration, the Manitowoc County Recycling Center will be selling compost at a 50% discount.
The compost offered at the Recycling Center is made up of e leaves, grass clippings, and garden/yard materials dropped off at the Basswood Compost Site.
Operations Manager Jon Risenbuechler said that the benefits of compost are that it enriches the soil, helps retain moisture, reduces the need for chemical fertilizers, and improves overall soil condition.
With the discount, residents can purchase one cubic yard of their compost for $7.50, and it can be loaded into open trucks and trailers by Recycling Center employees.
