The trial has started for a Milwaukee man accused of throwing acid on his victim’s face.
Mahud Villalaz suffered second-degree burns to his face, cheek, neck, and left eye during the incident in November 2019.
Prosecutors have charged 64-year-old Clifton Blackwell with first-degree reckless injury.
The case is being prosecuted as a hate crime.
Investigators say Blackwell confronted Villalaz outside a Milwaukee restaurant and made racially-charged remarks before throwing acid on him.
Video surveillance captured the attack.
