One local organization has been holding monthly training sessions all year with the goal of training 5,000 community members in Manitowoc County about suicide prevention.
Prevent Suicide Manitowoc County will be holding its next session on May 3 from noon until 1:00 p.m. The session is free and will be held virtually via the Zoon online platform.
The one-hour session teaches warning signs of suicide, teaches how to offer hope, and provides resources to help save a life.
The organization utilizes teaching QPR to train people to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis. QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer – the three steps experts say anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide.
Prevent Suicide Manitowoc County says that these workshops are funded by donors and taught by qualified volunteers, which is how they are able to offer the information free of charge.
