Statements made by the teenage suspect in an arson case that killed her nephew have been deemed admissible in court.
The defense team for Marcelia Fonseca, who was 15 at the time of the incident in 2019, looked to keep the statements out of the courtroom, but Judge John Zakowski disagreed, and will allow them to be used.
Fonseca, who is being tried as an adult per Wisconsin statute, is accused of starting a fire in a home in the 2500 block of Wisconsin Avenue in Green Bay, which subsequently killed her 11-month-old nephew.
While being interviewed by police, Fonseca reportedly gave multiple versions of what had happened, and even let the family cat out of the home without checking on her nephew.
She also admitted to previously putting a pillow over her younger sibling’s head previously.
Her trial is scheduled to begin on May 31st.
