If you plan on taking your boat out this spring, you are being encouraged to be careful, but not because of strong waves.
The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office has reported an influx of catalytic converter thefts from vehicles parks at boat landings along the Wolf River.
In a statement on Facebook, the Department stated that they “will do their best to provide extra patrol to these areas but we need your help.”
They are asking people who see someone acting suspicious or laying under a vehicle to call their local law enforcement officials immediately.
Legislators are also doing their part to deter would-be thieves.
A bill was signed last month, which required people who sell these car parts to be 18 years old with a government-issued ID and provide documentation they lawfully possess the item.
Scrap dealers must also maintain records of sale, the seller’s vehicle license plate, and a description of the converter.
