Milwaukee’s new mayor spent much of Wednesday trying to fix “broken relationships” with Republican lawmakers.
Cavalier Johnson was elected to the position Tuesday.
He says improving relations between his city and Republicans – who control the Wisconsin Legislature – will take some time.
Johnson needs to undo the damage because he plans to ask for more state money to pay for things like improving public safety in the state’s largest city.
Milwaukee is a Democratic voting stronghold.
