What do you get when you combine marshmallow Peeps and books? Usually, a sticky mess. In the case of Manitowoc Public Library’s Peep Book Art Contest, we are challenging folks to make SWEET art! The challenge: create a scene from your favorite book with Peep bunnies and enter it in our Peep Book Art contest! And this challenge isn’t just for kids: we are opening up our Peep Book Art Contest to ALL AGES. We are looking for your best interpretation of a favorite book, and the possibilities are endless: Harry Peep and the Peep of Azkaban, Moby Peep, Peep & Prejudice, Mary Peepins . . . A quick search online will also reveal that the puns are also endless.
Curious how to enter the contest? You should be! Here’s what you’ve got to do:
- Come up with an idea for a scene from a favorite book
- Create a scene with any materials you like. However, Bunny Peeps (yes, specifically Bunnies) must be the main focus of the scene.
- Come to the Youth Department to register your book art between April 5-11
- VOTE! Book art will be on display from April 11-18, and voting will be open all that week. You can only vote once.
- When creating your scene, remember that it will be on display in the Youth Department, so scenes must be family-friendly. No inappropriate or explicit art will be accepted for the display or competition.

But wait, there’s more! Want to participate without spending a dime? The library’s got your back! We are hosting a Peep Book Art Workshop on Tuesday, April 5, from 5:30-7:30 PM. Drop-into the Balkansky Community Room at any time during those two hours to get craft supplies and work on your scene. And, of course, we’ll be providing all the Bunny Peeps you need! Got kids? Bring the whole family to work on a scene together or create individual scenes. If you don’t finish your scene during the workshop, no worries! You will be welcome to take your supplies home and register your scene later. Can’t make it to our workshop? We’ll have limited quantities of Peeps and assorted materials available as Grab & Go bags after the workshop. The only limit is your imagination . . . and our Peep supply!
April is a perfect time to celebrate all things sweet, bookish, and punny. Join us in our first-ever Peep Book Art Contest! Scenes must be dropped off and registered at the Youth Desk between April 5 and April 11. Book Art will be on display from April 11-18 in the Youth Department. And voting runs from April 11 to April 18. Open to all ages. See you at the Library!
