Following more than 30-years in education and sports administration, Dave Steavpack has announced his retirement as Director of Activities and Athletics at Manitowoc Lincoln High School.
Steavpack tells Seehafer News he’ll be retiring effective in early June after serving the last 8-years as AD with the local school district, 12 years before that as an athletic director/assistant principal at Ashwaubenon, and 8-years as a phy-ed teacher/coach at Lincoln.
Steavpack, who turns 59 next week, sat down with us Monday and said, “My wife Amy has been retired for 3 years and I want to be part of that next chapter with her. I love what I do, I love this job and I love being a part of education and connecting with kids. (But) now is the time to spend more time with my family.”
When reflecting on his career, Dave says “it’s still about the kids…that’s why you’re in education. It’s not about the material things or banners on the wall or trophies in the trophy case. It is the relationships you’ve had with kids, with coaches and other adults, the camaraderie that you have with other school district administrators or other coaches. I mean there are so many things you have as an educator working with people.”
His thoughts also centered on working alongside three former Ships head coaches, two of whom are no longer with us.
“I look back at my memories here and working with Mark Christenson,” he said. “He’s been such an incredible mentor for me in my early years as an educator. Also, sharing an office with (late Ships football coaches) Ron Rubick and John Dixon, two men I think so highly of and their families.
Steavpack has been serving at the state level as a WIAA board member and on the governing body’s Advisory Council for the last 9-years.
The Manitowoc Public School District will accept applications for Steavpack’s replacement through this Friday, April 8th, with a successor expected to be named by mid-May.
