An arrest has been made in a weekend hit and run involving a cyclist in Manitowoc.
Officers were called to the intersection of South 13th and Washington Street at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday after learning of the incident.
The victim was being treated at the time of their arrival, so they spoke with a witness, who gave them a vehicle description and a license plate number that was missing a single letter.
The officers were able to find a vehicle matching the witness’s description in their system, which led them to a home in the 900 block of South 13th Street.
They also used security camera footage to view the incident. Officers surveilled the vehicle while the investigation continued, and saw Hunter Vanroekel, the 22-year-old man who owned the vehicle, walk toward it.
When the officers approached Vanroekel reportedly said that he is “the guy you are looking for.”
He was taken into custody on charges including Hit and Run Causing Injury, and Felony Bail Jumping.
His bail hearing is scheduled for 12:45 this afternoon (April 5th).
