2021 was a busy year for the Sheboygan Fire Department, but not because of structure fires.
In fact, according to Sheboygan’s Annual Performance Report, of the 5,099 total calls the department responded to, only 87 were fires.
While that number is up slightly from 2020, it is lower than each of the previous three years.
The vast majority of calls required EMS personnel. Rescue and EMS calls totaled 4,833 last year, which is up from each of the last four years.
A category referred to as “non-fires” comprised the remaining 1,379 calls.
Station 1, located on New York Avenue, was the busiest of the five fire stations, responding to nearly 30% of all calls, while Station 3, located on North 25th Street, was called into action just over 23% of the time.
Also of note, calls outside of the city limits were down drastically last year, 35 compared to 68 in 2020.
