Leading the Roncalli Boys Basketball Team to its second championship earlier this month not only resulted in a Gold Ball for the Jets, but it resulted in acclaim for the team’s head coach.
Coach Joe Garceau was announced as Wisconsin’s state coach of the year by the Associated Press on Monday. Roncalli defeated Milwaukee Academy of Science for the WIAA Division 4 Championship earlier this month. It was the Jets’ second title in five years.
In Garceau’s seven seasons as head coach, the team has been to state four times and they were on their way to state success in 2020 before the tournament was canceled prematurely due to COVID-19.
The head coach was not the only key member of the team to be celebrated on Monday, as 6’4″ senior Luke Pautz was named to the Associated Press Wisconsin All-State Boys team.
After winning this season’s title, Pautz praised Garceau heavily, saying, “There are nights he doesn’t go to bed because he’s making sure we know everything inside and out about the next team. I love him. I love playing for him. I wouldn’t want to be coached by anyone else.”
The Jets’ coach told the Associated Press that he was surprised to win the award, but considers it a team accomplishment.
Meanwhile, Menomonee Falls point guard Seth Tremble has been named the AP Wisconsin Player of the Year.
The 6′ 3″ senior can add that to a long list of honors.
He has committed to playing his college ball at North Carolina.
Falls hasn’t won a conference championship in a dozen years and had never qualified for the state tournament.
This year the Phoenix put up a 25-and-4 record.
Tremble averaged more than 26 points a game while leading Menomonee Falls with 4.2 assists per outing.
He also grabbed an average of 7.4 rebounds.
