One donation of $22 will allow many area families to stretch their dollars to fill up their refrigerators, freezers and pantries tomorrow afternoon.
Ruby’s food pantry is distributing food tomorrow at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Denmark. There is no income or residency requirement; the organization simply asks people to show up at 4:00 p.m. with two boxes and $22 to have their boxes filled with food.
Distribution will take place between 4:30 and 6:00 p.m.
Expect a mixture of fresh foods as well as preserved foods. Foods of the preserved variety may be marked past their manufacturer’s recommended “best by” date, but Ruby’s says no to fear. They claim the food is all handled properly but recommend prioritizing quickly eating the food that has been shelved for a long time.
Ruby’s Facebook page says that the event is set to distribute around 400 bundles each month. Distributions occur on the 4th Tuesday of each month.
The food pantry partners with food manufacturers, distributors and producers to collect surplus food to be sorted and distributed, reducing food waste and ensuring that families do not go hungry. They hold multiple pop-up locations throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota.
