The Dane County Sheriff’s Office has released more information about the deputy who was fired last year.
Sara Bortz-Rodriguez had been on the job for more than seven years when she reported firing a shot at a man who attacked her in Festge Park last October.
Her employment as a deputy was terminated less than a month later but it wasn’t announced until February.
The sheriff’s office says Bortz-Rodriguez lost her job because she violated county civil service rules as well as the sheriff’s office code of conduct.
The results of an investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice have been turned over to the Dane County District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed.
