Lakeland University is set to acquire Jake’s Café in Sheboygan to provide more access to its Cooperative Education program.
The goal is to recruit the next generation of entrepreneurially minded students and position the institution as a larger resource and partner for the region.
Jake’s Café will be renamed Jake’s, a Lakeland Community. It will work with the university to create an environment for workplace learning and practice.
Lakeland President Beth Borgen said in a press release that Jake’s will allow students to develop their ideas, whether they “want to run a small business or has the next big idea, Jake’s will provide a unique laboratory for learning.”
The university is working on how they will utilize the full commercial kitchen, café space and other benefits of the venue.
Proceeds generated from the operations will support the continued expansion of Lakeland’s Cooperative Education Program, as well as student-run businesses and student scholarships.
