Manitowoc Ice, a maker of commercial ice machines used in a variety of foodservice and industrial settings, is being sold for $1.6 billion to Pentair, a leading water treatment company based in London England and managed out of Golden Valley Minnesota.
Pentair’s Chief Executive John Stauch says they have a definitive agreement in place that is expected to be in his words “ a game-changer” for its commercial water solutions platform.
Manitowoc Ice is a subsidiary of Wellbit Inc, a maker of commercial food-service equipment based out of Florida with plants in Manitowoc along with Mexico and China. There’s no official word on when the sale will be consummated and how it will affect Manitowoc Ice’s 800 employees who manufacture about 200 models of commercial ice-making machines.
We’ve been unsuccessful so far in trying to reach out to Pentair and Manitowoc Ice headquarters and we’ve reached out to Mayor Nickels’s office for comment, but no one was available to confirm the story run this afternoon by The Associated Press.
