Moments after commissioner Rob Manfred said the first two series of the regular season are being called off, members of the players’ union said they want to continue talks as soon as today.
Manfred suggested the discussions would be on hold until Thursday.
The head of the players’ union, Tony Clark, indicated the progress made in discussions this week is a good reason to keep talking.
There are still significant gaps between the sides on key issues and no agreement appears to be close.
