A teenager who allegedly made threats about harming other people spurred a lockdown of several Appleton schools on Monday.
Before details were made public, the reason for the lockdown was described as a “situation within the community.”
Appleton police report that a parent called authorities just before noon due to concern about her 15-year-old-son making threats about hurting other students.
He had just left home before the authorities arrived. Police discovered that the boy was involved in a fight with other Appleton students over the weekend, and they suspect he may have been looking for them.
Authorities took the boy into custody at around 2:00 p.m. Monday.
The lockdown was lifted shortly after the boy was taken into custody, and it included a dozen schools in the district. The lockdown was said to be precautionary.
