Visitors to Lincoln Park in Manitowoc can expect to see construction road closures inside the park starting Monday.
An independent contractor has been hired to begin removing Emerald Ash Borer-infested trees at the park.
According to a release from Dan Koski, Manitowoc Director of Public Infrastructure, work will begin in the area from North 8th Street to the tennis courts and will eventually progress towards the zoo.
The periodic road closures inside the park will largely take place during daytime hours, and will typically be open in the evenings. The parking lot by the fieldhouse may be closed at times to pile wood and debris.
Emerald Ash Borer is nearly 100% fatal to untreated ash trees. The goal is to remove infected trees before they become hazardous.
The Forestry Division currently has $15,000 earmarked in their 2022 budget for tree purchases and planting on City property to help replace trees that are being removed.
Manitowoc residents looking to help with the replenishment effort can purchase a memorial tree package for a tree in a City park or in Evergreen Cemetery. More information can be found online.
Tree removals are expected to be completed by May 1.
