The Big Ten Conference is coming down hard on Michigan basketball coach Juwan Howard.
Conference officials say they have reviewed the post-game altercation between the Badgers and Wolverines Sunday in Madison.
An angry Howard argued with Wisconsin coach Greg Gard, then hit assistant Joe Krabbenhoft in the head.
Howard is suspended for five games, essentially the rest of the regular season, and fined $40,000, while Gard is being fined $10,000 but isn’t suspended.
Two Michigan players and Badger Jahcobi Neath are suspended one game each for throwing punches.
Meanwhile, wins over Indiana and Michigan have boosted the Badgers up two positions in this week’s A-P College Basketball Poll to number 13.
The Badgers took down the Hoosiers on the road 74-69, then dispatched the Wolverines Sunday 77-63.
That gives them a 21-and-5 record overall, including 12-and-4 in the Big Ten.
Wisconsin’s other Division One program, Marquette, is still getting points but isn’t listed in the top-25.
The Golden Eagles beat Georgetown but dropped an 83-82 decision at Creighton.
They were unofficially ranked number-34 this week.
