Noticing the signs that a loved one may be veering toward suicide can be a bit tricky.
Prevent Suicide Manitowoc County is trying to help with their Question, Persuade, Refer training sessions.
We spoke with Cath Tease, who is one of the QPR trainers, and she explained what exactly this training does.
“QPR really is about helping people lean into having conversations that are difficult,” she explained. “We walk through how to ask those hard questions. It’s very difficult, yet very necessary.”
Prevent Suicide has a loft goal with their QPR training. Tease said they are trying to train 5,000 individuals.
“It’s hard to lean in and ask someone ‘Have you been thinking about killing yourself?’” she said. “That’s a hard question to ask, yet it’s really important that we find the strength to ask the question so that our loved one feels they have a place to share if they need to.”
Tease told us that she tends to conduct these training sessions at businesses and non-profits.
If you would like to sign up to take the course, it only takes one hour and can be conducted any time of the day.
You can sign up either at PreventSuicideManitowoc.com, or you can call Tease at 920-683-5108.
