The first-ever K-9 officer for the city of Two Rivers was sworn in during a special ceremony at Monday night’s City Council meeting.
Canine Officer Xanti was accompanied by Canine Handler Officer Andrew Lade for the ceremony as they swore to protect and serve. Officer Lade allowed Xanti to meet the council and the audience after the ceremony, explaining that Xanti is “a great dog, very friendly … but he knows how to take care of business when it’s necessary, too.”
Xanti is a purebred German Shepard that only understands commands in German. That was addressed after the audience looked bewildered as Officer Lade continued using German commands such as “sitz” or “fuss” instead of the English equivalents “sit” or “heel.”

Police Chief Brian Kohlmeier provided some background about the acquisition of Xanti, referring to sizable donations that were received to help purchase the dog. He also noted how the investment has already paid dividends.
After the pair completed their January training, Officer Lade and Xanti took to the road for their first action and “backed up an officer from another jurisdiction that stopped a car in Two Rivers. Officer Lade and Xanti went over there and found some cocaine and some drug paraphernalia on their first outing. Excellent job to both of them.”
City Counselor Jeff Dahlke expressed appreciation for the donations that allowed Two Rivers to invest in Xanti, exclaiming about how special it is when a community comes together for such a cause.
