While the Primary Election went off without a hitch in most places, there is a controversy brewing in Green Bay.
According to state statute, the vote-by-mail absentee ballots were required to be counted in view of the public from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., but a witness reported seeing the City Clerk, begin the counting before 8:30 a.m.
This coupled with the controversy from the Presidential Election in 2020 has sparked the ire of many, including Senator Eric Wimberger.
The State Senator from Green Bay voiced his frustrations with Mayor Eric Genrich, and the election issues in the city saying, “The community is left without confidence the vote tally reflects the votes cast.”
There were numerous City Council and County Board races on the ballot, including one that ended in a tie for second place, triggering a recount and potential tiebreaker.
