A new trail project expected to be constructed this year will link the Lincoln Park Zoo with the Mariners Trail.
Curtis Hall, the Manager of Mantiowoc’s Parks and Recreation Division, spoke recently with Seehafer News about the Bayshore Trail.
“We have the infrastructure along Bayshore drive and at the roundabout to allow pedestrians to travel from the Mariners Trail,” he expalined. “So, they’ll be able to cross Memorial Drive at the roundabout, and then we’ll have a 10-foot wide path on Bayshore Drive along with the crosswalk to take you to Bayshore Trail.”
And, Hall explains that the trail will travel through the new Bayshore development, in between Angelus Senior Living and the new condominiums, and will travel about 2500 feet along the Little Manitowoc River before crossing the river right near the Reed Avenue entrance by the zoo.
Hall said, “There’s going to be a new 200-foot bridge going across the Little Manitowoc basically to connect the Lincoln Park Zoo to the Bayshore Trail and then to the Mariners Trail.”
The parks and recreation manager said the project will also include the installation of a kayak launch, so people can come to Lincoln Park Zoo, park at the Reed Avenue entrance, go kayaking or possibly take a bike ride.
Hall believes the additional amenities will make the zoo into a multi-activity facility.
